Vision & Objectives
Our Vision: To achieve sustainable forests and forest communities in the context of changing forest uses and the unique Acadian Forest ecosystem.
Our Objectives: To achieve the vision given above, NFA has established four objectives:
- To encourage and promote the development of diverse economic initiatives, in the form of small to medium enterprises, that both conserve and depend on healthy rural forests. Examples include high-value-added wood-based businesses, ecotourism ventures, and forest-restoration initiatives. Capacity-building will take place using mutual-learning exchanges among NFA partners and affiliates as well as knowledge-transfer activities led by educational institutions.
To combine the resources of Nova Forest Alliance’s diverse partnership base to oversee integrated research and management to facilitate innovative, ecologically sustainable approaches to social and economic opportunities.
To include initiatives to develop new potential entrepreneurial opportunities and environmental stewardship to diversify forest-based business activities in each community.
To work with International Model Forests, including the Regional Model Forest Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC-Net), in sharing research methods for protecting species at risk, addressing landowner compensation for ecological services and fostering entrepreneurship for developing and marketing forest products.
